Aldeas Infantiles SOS
It is a private aid organisation for the childhood. It is international and independent of political orientation. The objective is to provide children a family circle, a stable home and solid information for a safe future. The mission is to integrate children in equal rights and obligations to the rest of the people.
Aldeas Infantiles SOS was founded in 1949 and it is a member of UNESCO and it has an adviser in the UN.
A home can exist without children but a child canÕt live without a home. They take and form all the children and they live a good future. They give a home and a family. They prevent situations like the physical and emotional abandoning of the children. However, sometimes it isn’t possible. A lot of children live without the support of one or both parents. Also millions of them suffer abuse as a result of being poor.
In Aldeas Infantiles SOS they believe that only in a family do the children get the emotional and physical well-being. They can live and have the opportunity to prepare for the future. For the last 60 years they work to ensure this right for the children all over the world.
Aldeas Infantiles SOS has 124 SOS devices as homes, schools, hospitals… It is in 132 countries and they take care of more than 450.000 children and young people.
Spanish Aldeas Infantiles SOS has 8 organisations in our country: Barcelona, Pontevedra, Madrid, Granada, Cuenca, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Zaragoza and Las Palmas. They support different schemes in America.
The result of the children and the young people taken care of by Spanish Aldeas Infantiles SOS is more than 10.800 children and young people.
In 1949, Hermann Gmeiner founded the first Aldea Infantil SOS in the Imst, a small Australian city, to offer orphan children a home in a family circle. Today, it helps in 132 countries with hundred or millions of families and children.
