Star Trek – 49th Anniversary of the Original Series
If we talk about space and science fiction franchises, the most common names are Star Wars and Star Trek. These arenÕt new franchises but they are both still in our minds due to their extraordinary vision of universe. Today we celebrate the 49th anniversary of Star Trek: the Original Series.
The series aired on NBC from September 8, 1966 to June 3, 1969. It had low ratings and they cancelled it after three seasons and 79 episodes. Despite this disastrous beginning, the series became a classic cult several years later, eventually spawning a franchise consisting of five additional television series, twelve feature films, numerous books, games and toys.
The seriesÕ argument was set in the 23rd century, on board of a large interstellar spaceship called Enterprise whose crew was dedicated to exploring a relatively small portion of our galaxy. The most well-known characters were Captain Kirk (William Shatner), Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley).
Without a doubt, this is one of the most relevant TV series. It made an entire generation become science fiction lovers and opened the door to other franchises such as Star Wars.
